After a strong top-eight finish at State Duals, the Jaguars were poised to put on a show after capturing their second consecutive Region 7-AAAAA Duals title earlier this season.
On Thursday night, the Jaguars put up a school record setting performance in the 7-AAAAA Traditional tournament with 12 sectional qualifiers — Kymani Tinsley (sophomore, 106 pounds), Wolf Bastien (sophomore, 113), Gavin Newton (freshman, 120), Javier Vasquez (sophomore, 126), Jesse Gann (senior, 138), Aiden Vasquez (senior, 144), Gabriel Perez (junior, 150), Flavio Drittlhuber (junior, 165), Adnan Turkic (junior, 175), Zacariah Walker (senior, 190), Andrew Turenne (junior, 215) and Jose Urdaneta Silva (senior, 285). Newton, Gann, Walker, Turenne and Urdaneta Silva were all individual champions.
The Jaguars ended the tournament with a school record of 233 points. Gainesville was second with 180 points, Roswell third with 166 and the host team, Lanier, scored 147.5 points.
“It means so much to win this with my teammates," Gann said. "I got second last year and this felt like my last chance to win a region title. It’s very special. Our freshmen from last year have bought in on the hard work and they get better every day.”
